Starting rate: $35 – 40 per hour.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Responsible for all therapeutic groups and the daily therapeutic Milieu in the Outpatient Program Services, which includes our Intensive Outpatient Program, (IOP), and our Partial Hospitalization Program, (PHP). Responsible for psychosocial histories, client orientation, processing inquiry calls, evaluating potential patients for admission (adult patients age 18 and over) and managing a case load. Case management follow-up with support systems when needed, facilitation of groups, appropriate documentation of the groups, and crisis intervention as needed. Demonstrates clinical competence in the provision of nursing care specific to adult patients and understands and utilizes the growth/development stages of adults.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervises Board of Behavioral Sciences, (BBS), and Interns as per licensure.
2. Performs initial assessment of potential adult patients and evaluates appropriateness for PHP as directed by the Manager.
3. Psychosocial assessment completed within three (3) treatment days on assigned patients.
4. Recognizes and demonstrates the ability for restraints following unsuccessful attempts of least restrictive alternative measures.
5. Facilitate groups as needed and documents in the individual medical record of each patient the therapeutic interventions used and the patients response those interventions.
6. Conducting individual sessions with clients on caseload and completes billing sheets as appropriate.
7. Follow-up calls to absent clients as directed.
8. Contact with support systems, i.e., board and care facilities, families, conservators.
9. Providing milieu management.
10. Knowledge of CMS, Joint Commission, and DMH regulations regarding Partial Hospitalization.
11. Preparing initial treatment plans and treatment plan updates on all caseloads
12. Assist in development and ongoing refinement of program schedule and curriculum.
13. Assist with Performance Improvement (PI) activities as requested.
14. Utilization review on all patients as directed by Program Manager.
15. Attendance and participation at treatment team meetings, staff meetings, hospital meetings and hospital committees.
16. Consistent documentation of all levels of patient involvement in the program, e.g., attendance, group participation, charges associated with patient care.
17. Generating and maintaining reports pertaining to client participation in the program.
18. Discharge and Post Discharge planning, including placement if needed.
19. Participation in community outreach, i.e., facility visits, developing strong working relationships with referral sources, maintaining productivity and attendance reports, etc.
20. Maintains thorough knowledge of the hospital’s treatment programs
21. Coordinates and participates in direct liaison with referral sources throughout the patient referral, admission and discharge process.
22. Responds to all requests for general information about treatment programs and provides information regarding specific or general topics in response to community needs.
23. Develops, promotes and conducts community education and public service information programs (i.e., seminars, symposiums, lectures and workshops), if requested and as appropriate to licensure.
24. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED
3-5 years experience in Mental Health, preferred. 1-2 years experience as a therapist in an outpatient setting, IOP/PHP, preferred. Must possess a current CPR card and AB508 certification with updates annually. Must possess speed, consistency and accuracy in tasks, meeting precise tolerances and standards. Ability to demonstrate flexibility in work environment, performing a variety of changing tasks. Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with others on a team. Be able to sustain concentration and prolonged commitment to tasks. Display a high level of cognitive, interpretive or judgement skills. Ability to influence others, plan, negotiate, direct, control or monitor others’ activities. Strong written and verbal communication skills; must be able to express creativity through writing. Must be able to work alone effectively under stress in certain situations.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be a graduate of an accredited institution and have received a degree in counseling, Social Work, and/or psychology and preferably certified by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Completion of supervisory training preferred. Ability to supervise Interns as per licensure, preferred. Case Management and group facilitation experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires pushing, pulling, and lifting materials not exceeding 15 pounds. Any workload exceeding 15 pounds will require assistance. Requires grasping, writing, standing, reaching, sitting, lifting, squatting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with employees, physicians, visitors and patients. Must have the ability to hear warning horns or sirens. Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near and far visions. Requires manual and finger dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most work tasks are performed indoors. This position requires one to work varying schedules and in varying units to meet the shifting needs of the hospital. Temperature is moderate and controlled by the hospital’s environmental systems. There may be exposure to communicable diseases.
